It’s that time of year again, when the breezes on the water start to cool off and thoughts of the upcoming holidays are in the back of your mind. Will family come to visit you on the boat this year? Will you step on land to leave for Thanksgiving or Christmas? Whichever your course may be, remember that “Home is Where The Anchor Drops” and be sure to treat your boat and yourself to a few new items for the upcoming holidays on the water.
The Smells of Autumn – Boat Smell Hack
Land lubbers only need to purchase Apple Cinnamon and Pumpkin Spice Candles to quickly add Autumn smells to their homes. However, we all know that Candles and Boats just don’t go together. So how do you get the same effect? First, purchase an odor absorbing Gel like this product available at your nearest Walmart (chances are you may already have a stash of these as they work wonders for absorbing day to day boat odors that can add up quickly.) Then, pick out a few scented hand soaps or even just a bottle of liquid hand soap with your favorite holiday scents and place them next to the Gel. You’ll quickly notice the hand soap scent throughout that area of the boat.
The Taste of Autumn – Easy Autumn Muffins Recipe
1 3/4 C. Flour
2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1 1/4 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 Tsp. Ground Nutmeg
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1/3 C. Sugar
1 Egg Beaten Egg
3/4 C. Milk
1/4 C. Cooking Oil
1 Tsp. butter for greasing muffin pan
Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and then make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Next, mix your wet ingredients in a small bowl. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients and stir just until ingredients are combined.
After your ingredients are well combined, pour them into a greased muffin pan. Place in a preheated 400 degree oven and bake your muffins for 20 minutes. After 15 minutes have gone by, check the muffins and remove them early if they are already golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes and then remove the muffins from the pan.
This is a basic, no yeast muffin recipe and a great start to baking on your boat. For more advice and tips see Carolyn Shearlock’s boat bread baking (say that three times!) articles here: http://theboatgalley.com/5-tips-baking-bread-boat/
